Organisations must exercise caution. There are no shortcuts. While organisations may feel under pressure to act now, rushing to make use of GenAl will likely lead to disappointment. After all, it takes just one over-zealous person to take data and put it in a public model for the whole organisation to get exposed.

Know your goals

It's critical to take time to understand the technology, but also your own business and pain points. Look at your existing processes, the hand-offs, the integrations, and systems. Identify where there might be opportunities to create efficiencies and improvements. But also be realistic about what can be achieved.

Understand the impacts

Identifying potential applications is just part of the challenge. You then need to think about the impact of any changes - both good and bad. Do I want to know why this system has made a recommendation? Do I need to understand that? What impact will it have if this answer is wrong? This all comes down to transparency.

Focus on data quality

Underpinning these questions is how reliable is the data that I am using to train the model? Is it free of bias? Is it accessible? Unless you understand the complexities of your specific industry, your customers, and the data you hold and what it can tell you, then you cannot expect any model to just tell you these answers.

Test, test, test

You must also consider how you test such a system. The challenge comes in how you test a system when there are so many different parameters. One approach is to create multi-agent models where the different agents mark each other's homework.

Make security foundational

Security and reliability are also key factors when you are embedding the technology and scaling it to thousands of customers. You need to know the risks and limitations of the technology and have risk management strategies in place to mitigate those.
